Product Description

Kai Lenny rides a beautiful huge wave at Nazare winning the contest run by WSL.

Story behind the image:

This beautiful, huge wave, perfectly surfed by Kai Lenny was ridden during the Tow Surfing Challenge by WSL on the 11th Feb 2020. It was a very big day, full of crazy rides, but this wave was insane. The first section broke kind of fat, but the 2nd just went full top to bottom, like those sketches we draw when thinking of a giant perfect wave. When you get one of the best big wave riders surfing at the world's most epic big wave spot, magic can and will happen. Obviously, a wave breaking right, facing the cliff, packed with thousands of people was the cherry on top, since unlike lefts, everyone could perfectly watch and capture Kai's ride. This wave won "Men's Wave of the Day" and was awarded the "XXL Men's Biggest Wave of the Year", measured at 70ft. Here's what Kai told WSL: "Probably the biggest thing I've ever ridden so far. We were towing back out and we saw this huge kind of mountain come out of the ocean and Luca's like "you want it?", I'm like "let's go, let's go!" and then he's like "are you sure?", because the wave was breaking towards the cliff and it was kind of in a sketchy spot but with Lucas I have blind faith he's gonna come get me so I'm like "ah worry about what happens after" and so he whipped me in and I didn't even have time to really check the wave out, I was just looking at the cliff and the thousands of people there for the contest and the wave was like the smoothest wave i've probably ever ridden out at Nazare. I was going like maybe 10 miles an hour quicker than I would normally, it felt like I was pushing 50 and I could just hear the wave break behind me and I took a little peek and I'm like "oh don't look back there" and I just kept on riding and as soon as the crowd cheered it was like "oh that was a good wave" but I was in competition mode so I didn't even think or consider the size of it I just thought I got like a really perfect one." Curious facts: Kai's wave was at 10:36AM and exactly one hour before at 9:36AM Maya Gabeira rode what was later announced as the world record for the biggest wave ever surfed by a woman, measured at 73ft.
